Cutting off toes

Hi, I am in the middle of a two week busy production schedual.. It is a dark adaptation of the grimm *****tale Ashenputtle (cinderella).. Im on scene we are having to cut off a toe.. The art department that have been hired are slow at their job and are desperatly trying to find a way to do this using latex.. Does anyone have any ideas at all? it would help alot.. we thought about not showing it actually be shown.. But I really want it to be shown.. Can anyone help? thnx. Ben

jesus how hard is it to make a fake foot?

Im sorry but what kind of art department dont know about plaster of paris? And you HIRED them???!!

If you want to go really overboard with latex then make a plastercast of your actors foot - using plaster of paris (do it in two peices - top half and then bottom half)
Then paint the inside with a few layers of latex.
Glue it all together and then stuff if with something foot shaped.

Or carve some toes out of wood, and use a hedgetrimmer and loads of fake blood. That way it will be so shocking no one will notice any flaws in your effect.

Here's another thought... ever see how some magicians so the disappearing hankerchief trick? They use a hollow plastic thumb that fits over their real thumb, which could look a lot like a toe, I guess. Any magic shop will carry them, or possibly a toy store. Because its hollow, you could fill it with stage blood. Use the clippers to lift the fake toe off and, with a bit of luck some tight editing, the blood will help conceal the real toe underneath and you might be able to get away with it.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you include some good audio with it. Audiences will be able to believe it more if the audio sends a shiver up their spine.

Cheers for both your ideas... Ive got the scene rechedualed for friday instead of tuesday.. This will give the **** art department time to start working.. Waited 3 hours for the art department to turn up with just a rose bush today.. frustrating.. Only four more days though till production is over.. bliss... Ben

the art team are probably a bunch of college kid slackers and the sound team are probably a bunch of monkeys and the the *** director...well don't get me started...........
